Update - There will not be a formal registration system for the workshops (please disregard the "Register Here" button). Simply attend an optional workshop of your interest on the day of the event. The sessions may be full, and so be sure to have your 2nd choice ready!


Friday, September 1st; various locations around UBC campus. 

Make your Jumpstart experience you own by finding a workshop that interests you! These optional sessions are designed to equip you with the tools to connect with your campus community, and navigate your first year successfully.  

Select the dropdown according to the time of your Student Life Workshop. If you are unsure, look to the letter in your LC name. For example, if your LC name is ARTS01AR - then you are in Group A. If it says, ENG15BC, then you are in Group B 

Please note that workshop has a limited capacity and attendance is on a first-come first serve basis. Should your workshop be full upon arriving, please find another session to attend. You can use this UBC Wayfinding resource to help locate your sessions!

Sustainability and Zero Waste at UBC

This workshop invites participants to be leaders in UBC’s culture of sustainability. During this workshop, participants will develop a solid understanding of climate change fundamentals and UBC’s sustainability commitments. Through discussion and activities, they will also learn how to effectively sort waste, reduce their environmental impact through mindful consumption practices, as well as support climate action on campus.


How to Find Work & Research Opportunities at UBC

The UBC Career Centre will offer an overview of the various work and research opportunities available to students at UBC and provide insights on the tools to find and apply for paid on and off campus jobs. Programs discussed will include Work Learn, Undergraduate Research Awards, Co-op programs, as well as all other work opportunities available to students. UBC Alumni will also share their stories of how they gained work experience while at UBC.


SAVE Lives: Harm Reduction & Naloxone Training

There is currently a toxic drug supply in British Columbia and Canada, and accidental drug poisoning continues to be a major public health crisis. In this 50-minute workshop, you will reflect on substance use and its impacts and gain practical strategies for safer substance use, as well as how to respond to accidental drug poisoning.

Go Global: International Learning Programs

Go Global is the central office on campus that helps students participate in international learning programs. Through this interactive workshop you will meet other students who are interested in travel and learn about the various programs that our office helps to support. Students will reflect on their own goals, interests and passions in relation to international programs and create a plan for incorporating travel into their academic studies.


Canadian Culture

The Canadian Culture session is designed for new international students attending UBC, and aims to provide valuable insights and foster a deeper understanding of Canadian culture and multiculturalism.
