Everyone calls me Dr. Pete. Someone gave me this name within my first few days of teaching, over 17 years ago, and somehow and it has stuck. You will see (and hear) me a lot in first year. I am the Chair of First Year Engineering and a professor of teaching in Mechanical Engineering. I am passionate about teaching, learning about learning, and sharing what I know with students. I was the lead developer of the first year introduction to engineering courses (APSC 100 and 101), and also the creator and narrator of most of the APSC 100 and 101 videos that you will view this year (hence the comment above that you will hear me a lot this year). Before APSC 100 and 101, I was the lead developer of the award winning Mech 2 Program in Mechanical Engineering. Outside of first year, I teach courses in the design process, machine design, and manoeuvring and control of ships. I also do some research in aerodynamics, and consult for companies such as Nike, Rocky Mountain, BC Hydro, and others.
