I am originally from the South of Switzerland and I studied biology at the University of Geneva, about five hours West of my hometown. Although for my Master’s I would have really loved to do research on the genetics of dogs, I settled for fruit flies. In 2000 I moved to Vancouver to do my PhD (where I also used fruit flies as a model organism), and after graduating I just never left. Since 2009 I have taught a number of courses in the Faculty of Science, including BIOL121, BIOL140, BIOL234 and 334, BIOL 335, BIOL 337, BIOL463, and the biology component of Science One. I also regularly supervise Directed Studies (BIOL448/ISCI448) and Work Learn projects, and am an Integrated Sciences mentor. What I like the most about my job is the interaction with students; I find that I learn from them as much as they may learn from me!
