My dad is a storyteller, and my mom is a community builder. As their progeny, I fuse the two; I build communities by telling stories. I was born in Nigeria, raised in the United States, and now Canada is my home. I am an engineer, researcher, and educator. I desire to create and cultivate communities of exploration where students can learn and are motivated to expand their knowledge beyond the confines of the course. As I investigate the barriers that impede learning, I look for opportunities to equip students with the skills necessary to succeed. The world is inundated with data, and so when I am not teaching, reading a book, watching K drama, or stitching phrases to make poems, I am analyzing and visualizing data. I am an assistant professor of teaching in the Department of Computer Science here at UBC. I teach 1st and 2nd year computer science courses and a 3rd year visualization course for the data science minor. I am looking forward to getting to know you. Seriously, my class sizes are typically around 200, so I rarely have a small cohort of students to interact with. Bring your questions, fears, dreams and aspirations together we can reflect and develop tips to navigate the next stage of your life.
