I teach WRDS 150 in the School of Journalism, Writing, and Discourse Studies, and on occasion, media history for the Department of History. I obtained his PhD in Communication at Simon Fraser University with research into British colonial film policy in the Asia Pacific region during the 1920s and 30s, and the resistance against Hollywood. I also hold an interdisciplinary Master of Fine Arts in Film, Theatre, and Interpersonal Communication, and a Master of Arts(Applied) in Recreation Administration with a focus on cultural policy. My current teaching and research focus is on organizational creativity and creative problem solving. Within my teaching I incorporate applied improv, team based learning, and on occasion game based learning. I have previously taught at Simon Fraser University, RMIT University Vietnam, Vietnam National University, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, and Ohio University. I have given opening keynotes for academic conferences in Paris and Hanoi, as well published a number of articles and book chapters. I am currently working on a book on organisational creativity. Aside from my teaching at UBC, I train, facilitate workshop, and coach on creativity internationally for both universities and within the corporate sector. I am a co founder of Creatific Culture Labs, an international partnership set up to help transform organizational cultures, unleash creativity, and empower the innovation process.
