Daniel Riccardi is an English for Academic Purposes (EAP) lecturer in the Vantage One program at the University of British Columbia, where he received the 2019 Vantage One teaching award. He holds a SSHRC funded MA in Language and Literacies Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, and has taught EAP in South Korea, Chile and Canada. His current research interests include online curriculum development and language assessment. Daniel has always been fascinated by language learning and teaching, a pursuit that has allowed him to live internationally. His passion for language learning and cross cultural experiences brought him to South Korea, where he spent three years teaching EAP at Gyeongsang National University and Korea University, while also studying the Korean language. He also spent a year in Chile learning Spanish and teaching English. Following his professional experience abroad, he returned to Toronto where he completed a Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language (CELTA) and began working at the University of Toronto, George Brown College, and Seneca College, teaching a variety of courses to both undergraduate and graduate students. In 2015, he began his position as an Academic English Lecturer in the Vantage One program at UBC, and since then has been proud to call Vancouver his home. In addition to his teaching and the pedagogical focused research he pursues at UBC, he is deeply passionate about exploring the mountainous terrain surrounding Vancouver through a variety of activities such as hiking, backcountry skiing, rock climbing, and trail running. Daniel is thrilled to talk about the amazing experience he has had at UBC professionally, as well as the incredible and adventurous lifestyle Vancouver affords us, where beautiful snow clad mountains meet the west coast!
