Antoine Coulombe is an Assistant professor of teaching and Chair of the Bachelor of Social Work who joined UBC on January 1st, 2019. He has a BSW from the University of Quebec in Chicoutimi and a MSW from the University of Quebec in Montreal. He has over 12 years of social work experience working with individuals, groups, and communities from diverse cultural backgrounds in various health care, school, and non profit settings. Antoine is a former Social Worker and Community Organizer who developed the first resources to support LGBTQ+ youth in Quebec City and contributed to advancing LGBTQ+ rights in Quebec. He also researched the empowerment perspective when working with LGBTQ+ during his Masters degree. Antoine was a full time Social Work instructor at Marie Victorin Colleges School of Social Work and taught Social Work theory and practice for over ten years. He collaborated on research exploring the applications of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in teaching Social Work. In his new role at UBC, Antoine is interested in creating accessible, safe, engaging, and reflective learning environments in which all students can thrive and become competent Social Workers.
