Ready to get social?

We’re excited to be offering many social events to give you the chance to get to know your Learning Community and other students outside your Faculty, find peers that share common interests with you, and connect with senior leaders, campus clubs, groups and resources.

Note: Some events have limited capacity and as such are first come, first served.

Using the dropdowns below, select the day for descriptions of all events being offered. Some of the events may need pre-sign ups. All events will run for a maximum of 60 minutes.

Wednesday, August 30th (4:15PM – 5:15PM)

Jump Start Carnival, Brock Collegium

Cotton candy, games, a photobooth and more! Come check out all the fun stuff Jump Start Carnival has to offer, and celebrate the new community you are a part of.

Totebag Painting, Tallwood Collegium

Do you enjoy painting? This is your chance to explore your artistic side by painting your own customized totebag!

Yoga, SRC Studio

Time to get bendy and relieve stress! Appropriate for all skill levels, this gentle Yoga class emphasizes moving safely and intentionally through postures while staying connected to your breath. Yoga mats are provided.

Recess, MacInnes Field

Join for a field day of fun in the sun with some lawn sports. Meet some new friends while tossing around a ball, playing spike ball, bean bag toss, ladder toss, and more!

DIY Candles & Face Masks, Arbutus Collegium

Looking for some self-care time? Join your fellow commuter students in making a self-care and wellness starter kit, which consists of a face mask and candle.

Drop-In Skate, Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre

Get ready to get your skate on! Whether you're an avid skater or just a beginner, this opportunity will give you the chance to get on the ice! Free equipment rentals will also be provided, subject to availability. All levels welcome.

Bike Kitchen, AMS Atrium Lower Level

Join the Bike Kitchen to learn about what to look out for when buying a used bike and some simple things you can do to keep your bike running smoothly throughout the year. In this workshop you'll learn more about all the resources available to you to commute to and on campus by bike!

Collegia Escape Room, Oak Collegium

Dive into an ultimate puzzle adventure full of mystery and intrigue as you work together to decipher clues and unlock hidden secrets! Your problem-solving skills will be put to the test, are you up for the challenge? PS: Capacity of 20 participants. Please show up on time so as to be divided into teams.

Thursday, August 31st (4:15PM – 5:15PM)

Hip Hop Classes, SRC Studio

Having taken North America by storm, K-Pop dance is a mix of hip-hop styles and sass set to Korean Pop music. No prior experience necessary!

Drop in Basketball and Badminton, SRC Gym

Shoot some hoops or smash some birdies at the Student Recreation Centre (SRC). Stop by the SRC to work on your ball game and meet some new people! Or if you want to hit around a birdie and play badminton, this is the perfect drop-in for you. Open to all levels.

Jumbo Board Games, MacInnes Field

Channel your playful and competitive side by playing some life-sized versions of your favorite board games!

Drop-in at the Fitness Centre, Life Building (ARC Fitness Centre)

Curious to see what the ARC Fitness Centre looks like? Want to know what machines there are? This is the perfect opportunity for you to learn more about what the ARC is and try out the gym firsthand! All levels welcome. First year t-shirt required for access to the fitness center.

Lane Swim, Rec Swim, Leisure Pool, UBC Aquatic Centre

Get your swim on! This is your chance to see the different amenities that the UBC Aquatic Centre provides and get a dip in as well! Drop-in for this event but ensure you bring your UBC Student card to access the facility. All levels welcome.
